Founded By Collectors, Not Executives
The idea for Lakhey Records started in a Kathmandu record shop, where the founders kept getting asked the same question: "Is any of this Nepali music actually pressed on vinyl?" Mostly, it wasn't. We started small — one artist, one pressing run — and grew from there.
Today the label is headquartered in Texas, which is where our distribution, e-commerce, and global shipping run from — but the music, the artist relationships, and the pressing partnerships stay rooted in Kathmandu. Every release is still a joint effort between both places.
Formats Nepal's Music Scene Deserved
Vinyl and cassette aren't nostalgia for us — they're the formats that let an album be held, shared, and collected the way its artist intended. For a lot of Nepali music, this is the first time it's ever existed as a physical release at all.
We press small, deliberate runs rather than mass-producing, which is part of why certain titles carry a limited-edition run.
Our Values
Authenticity
Every release is made in direct partnership with the artist — nothing licensed or repackaged without their involvement.
Craftsmanship
From lacquer cuts to J-card printing, we treat physical media as a craft, not an afterthought to streaming.
Community
We're built for collectors and listeners first — small pressing runs, honest pricing, and direct artist support.
